Jan Bot

 Meet Jan Bot, EYE Filmmuseum’s first robot employee. Powered by state-of-the-art AI algorithms, Jan Bot takes inspiration from daily news to collect fragments of Bits & Pieces, EYE’s famous collection of orphan footage, and produce short avant-garde films. In doing this, Jan Bot introduces the logics of computer automatism to the tradition of experimental cinema, while it brings film heritage to the algorithmic age. More generally, Jan Bot reflects on the algorithmic mindset which is becoming more and more present in our day-to-day life. It explores the potential as well as the limitations of algorithms, providing a new kind of audiovisual experience, by combining human inventiveness with machine efficiency.
