- How can a corkscrew save your brain?
- Can we be inspired by termites?
- What do football and glaucoma have in common?
Just a few examples of the things you could learn at the FameLab Netherlands Final. Sixteen candidates are participating in the Dutch Famelab finals. The winner will be representing the Netherlands at the Famelab International finals at the Cheltenham Science Festival in June. The candidates are selected by eight universities in The Netherlands. The winner of the InScience Audience Award receives a masterclass of an (inter)national filmmaker about the way which audio visual media can be used to communicate scientific research to non-scientific audiences.
Fancy coming along to watch? On Thursday 9 May 2019 you can witness the Netherlands’ finest science communicators as they battle it out to win a place at the FameLab International Final. Contestants will have just three minutes to pitch a concept in science or engineering to the panel of judges.
FameLab has grown into arguably the world’s leading science communication competition. A partnership with the British Council (since 2007) made FameLab expand to 31 different countries. With more than 9000 young scientists and engineers participating so far. FameLab aims to discover charismatic, up-and-coming scientists who inspire people to see the world from a new perspective. Johan van de Woestijne, festivaldirecteur InScience, will hand out the first InScience Audience Award: “Famelab fits perfectly with the mission of InScience, which wants to clarify the impact of science on society for a wide audience. Famelab helps young scientists acquire valuable skills to communicate their work in an accessible and attractive way.”
