InScience Maastricht

InScience is an international film festival with a line-up of carefully selected science films. In cooperation with Studium Generale, Maastricht University we proudly present the first satellite edition of the festival. InScience Maastricht shows three highlights of the Nijmegen-based festival, with ‘Artificial Intelligence’ as this year’s theme. All screenings are introduced by an expert (language: English) and followed by a discussion. More information is found here.

More human than human

More Human Than Human explores what it means to live in an age of intelligent machines. In a personal, playful and sometimes dramatic way, the filmmakers examine the creativity and human values at stake when smart machines take over more tasks, functions and autonomies. Will our creation, infinitely smarter, interconnected and possibly self-aware, render humanity obsolete?

freedom for the wolf

Long live democracy: everyone is equal and we can say, think and do what we want. Right? Citizens can vote during elections, but never really have the power to make a change. Filmed over three years in five countries, Freedom for the Wolf is an epic study on the new regime of illiberal democracy. How can human freedom be restricted and what is needed to preserve this freedom?

let there be light

Is nuclear fusion the holy grail in the search for perpetual, cheap and clean energy? In southern France, a team of international scientists are working on a revolutionary machine: a nuclear reactor that generates energy through nuclear fusion. Is this the ultimate solution for everything? And is it entirely unfindable? A story about a group of dedicated scientists determined to recreate a star on earth. Is this our best shot at an inexhaustible well of energy or a dangerous gamble?
